The Greene County softball team had a four-win week last week, increasing their season record to 17-5.
The Rams hosted West Marshall Monday, June 18, taking the win 2-1. There were no runs in the game until the Rams scored two in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Trojans had another at bat, where they scored one run, but weren’t able to top the Rams.
At bat, the Rams had six hits, including four singles with a double from Emma Stream and a triple from Emma Hoyle. Alexa Peters had a sacrifice bunt and three Rams struck out. On the field, the Rams had 21 putouts on 21 total chances, 16 coming from Stream as catcher. Hoyle threw 54 pitches, allowing one hit with one earned run and striking out 16 batters.
The Rams were at home on Tuesday, playing Manson-Northwest Webster, winning 6-0. Greene County had 12 hits, all singles, with Olivia Shannon walking and two Rams striking out. Defensively, the Rams had 21 putouts, 11 from Stream and six from Paige Teeples on first. Hoyle threw 47 pitches, allowing no hits or walks, with 12 strikeouts.
The action was in Perry on Wednesday where the Rams won 10-1. The game was tied 1-1 after the first two innings before Greene County scored three runs in the top of the third, then scored six more in the fifth inning. At bat, the Rams had 14 hits, 11 singles, a double each from Stream and Becca Anderson, and a homerun from Hoyle. Hoyle and Peterson each had a sacrifice bunt as well. Cunningham reached on a walk, and the Rams had just one strikeout in the game. On the field, the Rams had 21 putouts, with 15 from Stream. Hoyle threw 55 pitches, allowing three hits and striking out 15 batters.
The Rams picked up another home win Thursday, going 11-1 over the Kuemper Catholic Knights. Greene County scored five runs in the first inning, two in the second, one in the fourth and three runs in the fifth inning, holding the Knights from scoring until the fourth inning. All 10 Ram hits were singles for the night, with four sacrifice bunts, two from Stream, one from Peters and one from Sara Morlan. There were two walks and one batter hit by a pitch, with Anderson reaching on an error and one Ram striking out.
On the field, the Rams had 15 putouts, 10 from Stream, with no errors and 17 total chances. Hoyle threw only 36 pitches, allowing one hit with one earned run, striking out 10.
Several Rams continue to be ranked in Class 3A. Senior pitcher Emma Hoyle is ranked first in WHIP at 0.58, second in strike-outs at 221, third in ERA at 0.72, third in BAA (batting average against) at .116, and fifth in earn runs allowed at 14.
Senior Olivia Shannon is second in Class 3A in stolen bases with 37. She has been called out on stolen base attempts only twice, and is second in stolen base attempts as well.
Senior catcher Emma Stream is second in Class 3A in putouts with 230.
Shannon was sitting in the 17th spot across the state for the number of stolen bases this season with 23. Stream is 23rd for putouts with 207.
The Rams end their conference campaign June 28 with a home game against Saydel. Greene County leads the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference with a 19-5 record as of Wednesday morning. Saydel is in second with an 18-4 record.
On July 3, the Rams will play at home against Humboldt, with a July 6 game at home against Cherokee Washington for the first round of Class 3A regional play. The game is set to start at 7 pm. The winner advances to play on Saturday, July 8, against the victor between Southeast Valley / OABCIG. The regional championship is scheduled for July 11 at 7 pm.
